For years, development and improvement of consumer-orientated single stage Gen 1 technology has stood still – until now. Traditionally, Gen 1 tubes are made of glass – making them quite fragile and easily damaged, and have relatively low resolution, with very evident image edge distortion.
Introducing an Armasight exclusive – CORE (Ceramic Optical Ruggedized Engine) technology image intensifier tubes! While CORE does not contain a micro channel plate (and so by definition lands in the Gen 1 category) that is where the parallels end. Instead of glass, CORE tubes use a specially formulated ceramic compound fused with metal alloys similar to those used in production of Gen 2 and Gen 3 image intensifier tubes. Further advances in CORE have almost removed edge distortion, dramatically increased photo-sensitivity and most importantly, almost doubled resolution up to 70 lp/mm!
The Armasight Spark-B is the night vision binocular with 4x magnification built around CORE (Ceramic Optical Ruggedized Engine) image intensifier tubes. Unlike Gen 1 Image intensifier tubes that are fragile because they are made from glass, CORE™ IITs are made just like Gen 2 and Gen 3 – by fusing metal alloys with ceramic compounds. CORE™ technology is based on durable elements and allows tight component stacking, resulting in image tubes that are exceptionally shockproof and vibration resistant. Robust packaging protects easy-to-break protrusions common in Gen 1 tubes, and allows for a streamlined design that is lighter, more compact, and more reliable than typical night vision devices. The CORE™ platform offers ‘best in class’ resolution with 60-70 lp/mm, and increased photocathode sensitivity levels of upwards of 400μA/lm, which provide image quality in challenging ambient light conditions that rivals high-end Gen 2 image tubes. The Armasight Spark-B is a rugged and lightweight night vision binocular. Dual tube design provides increased depth perception and outstanding clarity. A built-in, focusable short-range IR illuminator allows the units to work well even in complete darkness, and an optional longrange infrared illuminator will dramatically boost the viewing range when you need it most.
